RECLAIMING YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD, BODY, & SELF
This small-group experience invites you to rebuild a peaceful, empowered relationship with food, your body, and yourself. Over eight weeks, we will explore the roots of diet culture, deepen body trust, and cultivate compassion through mindfulness, intuitive eating, and emotional processing. Together, we’ll create a safe, supportive community where healing unfolds through understanding, curiosity, and connection—not control or shame.

What to Expect
Each week includes guided discussion, gentle mindfulness exercises, and reflective journaling designed to foster awareness and healing. You’ll learn to tune into your body’s wisdom, soften critical self-talk, and move toward a relationship with food and body that honors both nourishment and self-respect.

SOPHIE DE JONG, LMHC
Sophie is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor passionate about helping individuals heal their relationship with food, body, and self. Her work is grounded in an anti-diet, Health at Every Size (HAES) framework that embraces body diversity and self-compassion as essential parts of well-being.
Before joining the HawaiÊ»i Institute of Integrated Behavioral Health, I worked in a range of clinical settings including eating disorder IOP/PHP programs, residential addiction treatment, and college counseling centers. These experiences have shaped a holistic and collaborative approach to care—one that integrates emotional, physical, and relational healing.
I support young people and adults navigating challenges such as disordered eating, perfectionism, anxiety, addiction recovery, and identity transitions. My style is relational, trauma-informed, and affirming, centering safety, curiosity, and self-understanding as the foundation for change.
I often collaborate with eating-disorder-informed registered dietitians and medical providers to ensure each client receives integrated, compassionate, and comprehensive support.
GROUP OUTLINE & GOALS
Group Focus:
Body neutrality, self-compassion, intuitive eating, mindfulness, and emotional processing.
WEEK 1
Foundations of Safety, Connection, and Values
We begin by establishing safety and shared agreements while exploring what recovery means for each participant. You’ll be introduced to concepts of body neutrality and Health at Every Size (HAES) and identify personal values to anchor your healing journey.
WEEK 2
Understanding Diet Culture and Body Oppression
We uncover how diet culture and systemic body oppression shape our beliefs and behaviors. Through education and reflection, we begin to release shame and recognize that our struggles with food and body are not personal failings, but learned patterns rooted in cultural conditioning.
WEEK 3
Reconnecting to Body Cues and Inner Wisdom
Learn to listen to your body’s cues for hunger, fullness, and satisfaction. This week emphasizes interoception—trusting the messages your body gives you—and shifting from judgment to gentle awareness.
WEEK 4
Food as Communication: Emotions and Coping
Explore the emotional layers of eating and learn to understand food as a form of communication. Together, we’ll normalize emotional eating and develop mindfulness tools for identifying and honoring emotional needs without shame.
WEEK 5
Shame Resilience and Self-Compassion
This session focuses on transforming the inner critic into an ally. You’ll learn to identify shame triggers, develop a compassionate inner voice, and practice kindness toward yourself during moments of distress.
WEEK 6
Body Image Healing: Respect Over Appearance
We move from body control to body respect. Through reflection and body-neutral practices, you’ll learn to honor your body’s fluctuations, cultivate gratitude for what it allows you to experience, and challenge the belief that your worth depends on appearance.
WEEK 7
Relational Healing, Boundaries, and Belonging
We explore how relationships influence our body image and eating patterns. Participants practice boundary-setting, healthy communication, and connection that supports authenticity and belonging.
WEEK 8
Integration, Embodiment, and Moving Forward
In our closing session, we celebrate progress, reinforce trust in self, and integrate lessons learned. You’ll leave with tools and practices to continue your healing journey and sustain the supportive connections built in group.
