The Green Thread:
Cannabis, Healing. & Mental Health

Coming 2026!

12-Part Workshop Series for Community Members & Mental Health Practitioners

This 12-part workshop series offers an inclusive space to explore the relationship between cannabis and mental health, grounded in scientific research, mo‘olelo (storytelling), and the lived experiences of our community here in Hawai‘i. Designed for both mental health and wellness practitioners and curious community members, the series offers two learning tracks:

  • Practitioner Track – For therapists, counselors, and health professionals seeking clinical guidance, ethical clarity, and trauma-informed cannabis integration tools.

  • Community Track – For individuals and caregivers wanting to better understand how cannabis may support mental wellness, symptom relief, and whole-body balance.

Each session can be attended independently and includes education on the endocannabinoid system, symptom-specific applications, responsible use, legal access in Hawai‘i, and real patient encounters.

Whether you're navigating your own healing, supporting others, or expanding your practice—this series offers a compassionate, culturally grounded approach to cannabis in modern care.

About this Series:

Cannabis has become a central topic in wellness conversations across Hawai‘i—and for good reason. From pain and anxiety to sleep and trauma, many in our communities are turning to this plant for relief. But how do we separate the science from the stigma? The healing from the hype?

This 12-part educational series is designed to offer compassionate, fact-based education on cannabis and mental health for both practitioners and the public. Rooted in clinical research and mo‘olelo, the series creates a space for real conversations, real healing, and responsible use.

Program Goals

  • Educate community members and professionals on how cannabis interacts with the mind and body

  • Reduce stigma through science, stories, and culturally grounded understanding

  • Explore both the potential benefits and risks of cannabis use for mental health

  • Empower responsible, intentional, and informed choices around cannabis in healing

Who Is This For

This series includes two integrated learning tracks to meet the needs of both:

Practitioners & Providers

  • Therapists, social workers, medical professionals, and wellness practitioners

  • Learn about cannabis integration in therapy, ethical considerations, harm reduction, and trauma-informed guidance

  • Gain confidence in how to talk to clients about cannabis use—without stigma or avoidance

Community Members & Curious Individuals

  • Patients, caregivers, educators, and anyone exploring cannabis for symptom relief

  • Understand how cannabis works in the body, how to use it responsibly, and how to avoid common pitfalls

  • Learn from both scientific insights and real-life stories of healing

What You’ll Learn

Each session stands alone and includes:

  • Cannabis & the body: Psychoeducation on the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

  • Mental health applications

  • Cannabis and symptom relief (e.g., anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, chronic pain)

  • Products, dosing & delivery

  • Discussion of use, misuse, and harm reduction

  • Legal, ethical and practical guidance in Hawai‘i

  • Hawai‘i-specific law: the 329 card, dispensaries, growing, and safe use

  • Cultural and clinical storytelling that reflects the diverse experiences of our island communities

Why Join?

  • Because our clients are already talking about cannabis.

  • Because our communities deserve education, not shame.

  • Because as healers, we have a kuleana (responsibility) to know more.

  • And because cannabis—like all medicine—deserves both respect and understanding.
